Using Coupons to Serve

I don't know who (if any) of you use coupons from the Sunday papers, but I got a tip for how we can serve the community with this last Sunday's paper. Inside the Smart Source insert, there is a coupon for free kitty food. Since the economic crisis has started, the animal shelters have seen a significant increase in animals, and I'm sure they'd appreciate a little help with their food. The lastest paper has a lot of other good coupons if you wanted to get one to help anyway. You can buy them at Albertsons tonight, but they'll be taken tomorrow. I know Fred Meyer keeps theirs until the next one comes, but I don't know about Winco. Just a thought.

Glenn Walters Nursery

I just saw a sign up for Glenn Walters Nursery public clearance sale on May 1-2. They are a wholesale huge nursery but they have public sales occasionally. We bought several plants a couple years ago for great deals. I know they have other things but for sure they have trees, rose bushes, azaleas, hydrangeas, and rhododendrons. The address is 7375 NW Roy Road, Cornelius (it's Cornelius but it's right off Zion Church Road off of Glencoe Rd.).

Jackson School Annual Garage Sale

Jackson School Neighborhood is having their annual garage sale this Saturday, April 25th. They haven't been putting the signs out until the day before the last few years so I wanted to get the notice out.

And just a shameless plug...the Evergreen young women are selling hot dogs and baked goods to raise money for girls camp.
Visit us at two locations: One on Jamie drive or a second stand on the corner of Glen Ellen.

Happy Bargain Hunting!

Huge Library Booksale

When I was at the library, I noticed these colorful bookmarks saying "coupon" on them where you check out the books. After reading it, I discovered that they are having a huge book sale from Friday, May 1 to Sunday May 10. It is at the Hillsboro Main Library (the new library) . I went to one a few months ago and they had a huge selection of books. If you like books, this is a great sale because they have them really cheap.

Albertson's Great Meat Deal

So if you don't get the weekly Albertson's ads, there's a good deal going on. Here's the price for their meat on sale:
  • -Cook's Shank Portion Ham $.88 a lb
  • -Boneless skinless chicken breast $1.88 a lb
  • -Fresh beef round rump roast $1.88 a lb
  • -Boneless pork top loin roast $1.99 a lb
These are great prices but here is how to make it an even better deal. This week at Albertsons when you spend $25 on participating products ( over 650 to choose from) you will instantly get $10 off meat or seafood. So to get the best price make sure you buy your items in groups of $25 and get $10 in free meat. You can split them up or buy them in groups of $25, $50, $75…

Pork Roasts

Winco had picnic pork roasts on sale yesterday. The 1/2 roasts are 88 cents a pound and the whole ones are 78 cents a pound. I like to stock up when they're under a buck a pound.

Target Hint

I found this information on "A Thrifty Mom" about when Target puts their items on clearance. I hope the info helps.

Once you know how and when Target marks things down, you can easily find stuff for 75% off. GOOD STUFF! You can find Target’s clearance items by the little red sticker. They have a system for marking down their clearance. In general the markdowns go 30%, 50%, & then 75% off. There are exceptions to this rule, sometimes items start at 15% off. Plus, holiday items follow a different markdown schedule, they will get marked down to 90% off. SWEET!

Most of the clearance items are found at the end of the aisles, usually the end of the aisle facing a wall. Every time I head to target I check out the clearance. I always look for items that I can buy for later, birthday gifts, clothing, shampoo, etc.

Here is Target’s weekly markdown schedule:

Mon. – Electronics, Kids Clothing and Stationary (Cards, Gift Wrap, etc.)

Tues. – Domestics, Women’s Clothing, Pets and Market (food items)

Wed. — Men’s Clothing, Toys, Health and Beauty, Lawn & Garden items

Thur. – House Wares, Lingerie, Shoes, Sporting Goods, Movies, Music, Books, Decor & Luggage

Fri. – Auto, Cosmetics, Hardware, & Jewelry

Generally, they mark things down to the next level every 2 weeks. So, if you see something in sporting goods that you are interested in that was just marked down 50%, if you come back on Thursday 2 weeks from that day you should find it at 75% off. Sometimes you will come back and they will all be gone. Bummer! If it is something I really need, I will buy it at 50% off. If it is something I am buying for the future, I wait to see if I can get it at 75% off.

Also, twice a year Target resets each department, so they will clearance a ton of stuff from that department, to make way for the new seasons merchandise. For instance, the toy department gets reset in January (to make room for Spring/Summer toys), and in July/Aug. (to put out the holiday season toys). So, on one certain day you will be able to find 2 aisles worth of toys at 75% off. I stock up! My favorites are the Lego’s & Playmobilsets, you can’t go wrong with those, especially at 75% off. I look like a crazy lady throwing things in my cart.

Two more pieces of advice:
1. If there is something you are interested in, SCAN IT! You will find that sometime the sticker does not reflect the price, the price may actually be lower. I love when that happens!

2. SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS!!!!!!! Target has a strict return policy, and if you want to return something you will need your receipt. They do have receipt look up, so if you give them the debit/credit card you paid with they can look it up for you.

Another Restaurant.com Sale

So I just read on the " A Thrify Mom" blog that the Restaurant.com site is having another sale until April 13. If you want to get a $25 gift certificate, you pay $10 for it. You do have to spend $35 at the restaurant for it to work, but paying $20 for a $35 meal isn't bad, right? Just go here and use the coupon code SEASON and it might even let you decrease the cost to $4. Happy eating!

More Grocery Deals

In addition to the Post cereal mega-sale, I thought a few more sale tips might be nice (and if anyone knows of any other, I'd love to hear).

For Walgreens, the sale ends Saturday night, but there are some pretty good deals. Life cereal is on sale, 2 for $5 and you get a rapid rewards slip (these print off with your receipt) that is good for $2 on your next purchase (it is like a $2 gift card, doesn't need to be on cereal). Quaker granola bars are also 2 for $5 with a $2 RR (rapid rewards slip). Listerine is 2 for $11 with a $5.50 RR, Chapstick Naturals is $1.99 with a $1.99 RR (like getting it FREE). Softsoap body wash is buy one, get a slip for a free one on your next purchase.

For Albertsons, the sales are good until next Tuesday. Grapes are $.99/lb., Dole fruit cans are 10/$10. There's a Kellog sale where you buy 3 boxes ($1.99 on selected ones) and get a gallon of milk free (buy 5 and get 2 gallons, buy 7 get 3 gallons). Also, General Mills cereal is buy one get one free and there's a coupon here that helps reduce the price (by up to $1). I have some coupons from our free mailer for Shoppers Value sugar -4lb for 1.39 each ($.35/lb), and for free eggs when you buy the other things (if you'd like to know those offers, let me know).

If this helps anyone, that'd be exciting.

Looking For 4T pants for boys....

I have a friend who is looking for some gently used size 4T pants for her son (can 4 year old boys "gently" use their pants?? (o: Actually she just prefers no holes in the knees!) Is anyone looking to pass some on or know someone else who does?

Thanks!

DI Run

So I was talking with Jen Preece yesterday and we thought another good use for this blog would be to share things we'll take to DI soon, just in case others might know of someone who could use them. We hear others telling us they're going/asking if we know of anyone who might like a ..., so we thought "Why not have an open forum where people can just ask everyone at once.

First attempt:
We are going soon, and we're getting rid of some baby girl afghans, arm pillows, a metal toddler bed (we got it from Beth Brown, thinking my sister-in-law would need it, but doesn't) and plastic two-drawer compartment (about 3ft. wide, 2 ft long, and 5 in. deep per drawer). If you know of anyone who could use any of these, let me know by Friday. Thanks.

Post Cereal at Albertsons

Here is a copy of an email forwarded to me. Cheap cereal is nice, right?

My daughters are totally getting into couponing. Every day they email me good deals, which I mostly ignore. Well, today Becky dragged me to Albertsons, and I thought I'd share the deal we got. They have post cereal on sale for $1.57 a box if you buy 2. Well, they don't tell you this, but if you buy 5 you get a $5.00 coupon back from them to use on your next purchase. So Becky got hers first and got the $5 coupon which I used on my 5 boxes. I bought another 5 and used the coupon I got on the first 5 I bought and got another $5.00 off coupon which I gave back to Becky. We bought them all at the same time, just put the bar in between the 2 sets of boxes. So, I got 10 boxes of cereal for $6.70 or $.67 cents per box. They have 15 different kinds to choose from, and some of my favorites. Becky got hers for less than that because she had some post cereal manufactures coupons.
Just thought I'd pass this along.
